music lectures

After two decades of researching and performing wide-ranging concert programs of art songs, opera, and musical theater, Thea is excited to share her unique perspective as a singer and scholar through lectures and classes.

Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Her course, “Sondheim: Innovation and Influence” explores how this revolutionary composer/lyricist shifted musical theater away from escapism toward more psychologically and musically complex themes.

Whether she is gathering inspiration from original manuscripts in the Performing Arts Reading Room at the Library of Congress, curating must-hear repertoire lists for her students, or finding accessible and interesting ways to connect music and history, Thea is always eager to engage with lifelong learners.
